RAPID CITY, SD - Nothing says Earth Day like hiking the Black Hills.

The Hikerbabes Community: South Dakota Chapter, hit the Iron Creek Trail #15, Keystone.

Dianne Ellwein, co-ambassador and retired Sergeant Major, U.S. Army, led a group of 20 area Hikerbabes for a day of fun and fellowship.

"We celebrated Earth Day by taking a hike – a 5-mile hike along the #15 trail of Iron Creek. It’s very beautiful. And we’ve got about 20 ladies with us. We do a lot of fun things. We go hiking, but we also do biking, kayaking, and canoeing. We’re just a bunch of ladies that love to be in the outdoors. You can find us on Facebook. At the Hikerbabes community. The South Dakota chapter.”

The scenic Iron Creek trail is flat and tranquil and runs along the creek lined with Ponderosa Pine and rocky cliffs. Hikerbabes donned their boots and poles, maneuvering several creek crossings on wooden planks, bridges, and rocks.

The South Dakota Chapter has grown to over 2,000 members and is part of an international organization with hikers making pilgrimages to destinations such as Hawaii, Iceland, and Switzerland. In fact, Ellwein will be hiking all three destinations this year.
